Young Opera Schloss Weikersheim
Young Opera is being produced in Weikersheim since 1965 – initiated by Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. Our name is our mission: Participating in our International Opera Academy young talents may experience a valuable stepping stone to the professional scene – in front of, on and behind the stage.
Weikersheim Castle has been appointed „World Meeting Center“ of Jeunesses Musicales International. During several summer weeks our opera project enfolds a world of its own: living and working together in the ideal venue of our „Musikakademie“ and surrounded by a picturesque historic little town and the landscape of the Tauber valley.
close up and dedicated
Every two years glittering open-air-performance enthuse more than 10.000 spectators in the enchanting setting of Schloss Weikersheim. Wether "Falstaff", the fervid "Carmen" or "La Traviata" – the audience loves the impulsively productions and the impetus the young singers bring characters of the opera repertoire on stage. In Weikersheim viewers don't need a lorgnette, here they are close up and dedicated when young talents are in the spotlight.
The Young Opera Schloss Weikersheim presents rising stars, artists at the beginning of their career. Many a singer, who today shines on international stages, once had his debut with a performance under the starry sky in Weikersheim.
2023

From 27 July - 6 August 2023, Gaetano Donizetti's "The Love Potion" was on the programme, or as the title sounds so evocatively in the original Italian: "l'elisir d'amore". Donizetti's music goes to the heart and is at the same time full of lightness. The audience experienced wonderful opera evenings and a little "la dolce vita" in the Weikersheim castle courtyard and in the Tauber Philharmonic.
Take a look behind the scenes
The set conjures up colourful - joyful! characters onto the stage and transports the audience into a colourful circus world. The costume designer for "Liebestrank" is Angela Schuett from Berlin. In her professional life, she has already designed more than 200 theatre and opera productions. In the meantime, she only works out of pure passion. And THAT is what you can see!
Thick boards are being drilled in the castle courtyard! The construction team is at work and, even in the sweltering heat and 30 degrees +, is in good spirits to set Guido Petzold's stage set in motion. Muscle power and carpentry know-how are needed here. And of course the necessary sensitivity. ... watch once
Orchestra, choir, soloists, ensemble - rehearsals are held individually, in ensembles or in tutti and in very different rehearsal formats. The dress rehearsal at the very end is clear: everything with everything. Before that, however, there are staged rehearsals, so-called "seat rehearsals" - a purely musical run-through, so to speak, piano rehearsals without orchestra, stage orchestra rehearsals, ... ... more
